!! The meaning "to murder" came from the criminal underworld when rival gangsters were frequently taken for a ride in an automobile and murdered. It became popular with mystery novels in the 1930s-1940s. Eric Ambler used this meaning in Journey into Fear in 1940: "He was to be taken for a ride."

(“謀殺”的含義來自黑社會,當時敵對的歹徒經常被帶上汽車被殺。它在二十世紀三十至四十年代流行於神秘小說中。Eric Ambler在一九四○年的“進入恐懼之旅”中使用了這個含義:“他將被殺〔被帶去搭順風車〕”)。

!! This slang was defined in Dialect Notes in 1925 as playing a trick on or deceiving someone.

(這個俚語在一九二五年的“方言筆記”中被定義為欺騙或欺哄某人。)

>> That educational institution deliberately made excuses to delay, and it took more than three years to teach pronunciation, which made several of our parents very angry, like having been taken for a ride.

(那間教育機構故意藉詞拖延,用三年幾的時間來教拼音,令我們幾個家長都很憤怒,像被欺騙。)

>> If the offer is too good to be true, it probably is – don’t be taken for a ride.

(如果出價是好到令人難以置信,它可能就是〔不是真的〕──不要被欺騙了。)
