!! This American slang was coined in the late 1920s based on a complete supper at a high-end restaurant of numerous courses, such as soup; fresh oysters; fish, chicken and other meat dishes; vegetables and potatoes; pastries; and finally cheese, fruit and a bowl of dried fruits and nuts.
