Get the Sack——被開除

Get the Sack——被開除

** be dismissed // be discharged // be fired // be laid off // the situation in which someone loses their job

~~ get the boot // get the can // get the axe // get the chop // get the bag // shown the door

!!The slang could refer to roving workmen who carried their tools in a sack or bag. When the work ended or a workman was fired, the worker picked up his sack or bag and moved on.

!!It also could refer to early days of the Industrial Revolution in England when skilled mechanics were expected to supply their own tools and equipment while working in the factories. When a mechanic was dismissed, the manager gave him a sack in which he put his tools.

>>During economic downturn, workers who are barely up to par in their productivity would get the sag first.

>>Jim was really worried that he would get the sag because he had an argument with his co-worker Mary three years ago but who is now his boss.
